On this episode, Ryan interviews Allison Jornlin, Fortean researcher, and founder of Milwaukee’s first haunted history tour. Allison and Ryan discuss the various ways they go about their own research into these fringe-filled topics. Then, Allison gives us exclusive information on some of the most tragic and startling ghost stories to ever come out of this historic city. They also discuss the 1987 Milwaukee Airship Mystery, and so much more.
Allison grew up in a small town in southeastern Wisconsin, reading everything in the school library about UFOs, monsters, ghosts, and psychic phenomena and wondering about the mysteries of the big city. When she moved to Milwaukee she dug even deeper into the city’s dusty archives and began gathering first-hand accounts of encounters with the paranormal. Finally, inspired by Chicago’s Richard Crowe, who kick-started U.S. ghost tourism in 1973, she founded Milwaukee’s first haunted history tour in 2008.
When she’s not teaching fourth graders at a local elementary school, Allison conducts ghost tours in the Third Ward and down Milwaukee’s haunted main street, Wisconsin Avenue. She assists businesses and paranormal investigation teams with in-depth historical research. As an admirer of anomalies researcher Charles Fort, she frequently provides expert commentary on a variety of Fortean topics for the podcast, See You on the Other Side.
Allison is currently compiling her more than ten years of local research into a travel guide featuring 101 of Milwaukee’s public haunts.

Jornlin seems very interesting and genuinely excited about her topics of research. I think I may try to go on one of her haunted tours the next time I am in Milwaukee.
Incidentally, Shannon, there is another quite well-known and interesting Fortean researcher from Wisconsin you should contact and ask to appear as a guest on ITF – Linda Godfrey, author of the Beast of Bray Road, Hunting the American Werewolf, and a number of other books on the strange and the mysterious. Ms. Godfrey is an entertaining and engaging speaker, she does quite thorough research, but her main shortcoming is that she fails to use much discrimination in weeding out the implausible accounts from those that are much more believable.
Godfrey is a great person, and fantastic researcher. And funny you mention it…I am in the process of reading her latest, ‘Monsters Among Us’ so that I can have her on. Thanks! 🙂
